HARD ROAD TO TRAVEL * JIMMY CLIFF * BEVERLEY'S 054 * JA

 

Released in the UK on the Trojan 600 series # 690 as the B side to the Poppy Wonderful World, Beautiful People (some in picture cover: see below) the song, written by Jimmy Cliff, is a gritty sufferers tale with a message of hope and determination on a great Early Reggae beat, fast with lots of thumping bass. Jimmy Cliff first wrote and recorded the song for Island records two years earlier, but it was a much less dynamic recording with none of the bite and punch that the Beverly's cut has.

Leslie Kong's Beverly's records was one of the few Jamaican labels to have anything like a consistent chronological numbering system, which is why I never usually include some of the, often spurious, catalog numbers found on other Jamaican issues, and have done on the above.
