CASSAVUBU * COUNT OSSIE AFRO COMBO * BLUE BEAT 64 * UK

Joseph Kasavubu, c1917 – 1969, was president of the Republic of the Congo 1960–65. Although misspelled on this British release Cassavubu a. k. a.  Chubby was undoubtedly, at the very least, a reference to the African political leader. The lyrics of the song however, which, judging by the 'off stage' whispering that can be heard in the mix, was improvised, give no indication of this as they consist almost entirely of the refrain "Chubby, ohh wee, I love no one but you". It is the status of the record as an early example of Rastafarian based music, inspired by drummer Count Ossie, that it owes its inclusion on this page (oh, and the music's good).
