Ernest Ranglin was born in Manchester, Jamaica in 1932. Ranglin has played everywhere, with everyone, at all times. He goes back to the 'pick up' bands before Dodd et al were cutting records, playing guitar with all the big names that emerged in the Ska period, including many of the Skatalites tracks. In 1964 Ernest went to Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London and became resident jazz guitarist for 9 months. He is still active plying live gigs, session work and recording his own material. In 1973 he was awarded the Order of Distinction from the Jamaican Government for his contributions to music in Jamaica and the Musgrave medal in 1992.
