YOUTH IN SERVICE * PRINCE JAZBO * COUNT 123 * JA
It's hard to tell wether Prince Jazzbo is prasing, condoning or
criticising
with this lyrical tour around the island of Jamaica naming places of interest,
where, as far as I can tell, he observes that the young men are in 'service'
(?). Added to this observation he mentions a couple of quotes from the bible and
some references to himself as a Dee Jay! Somehow, this seemingly arbitrary
mish-mash of lyrics, at least to a Western ear, creates an overall enjoyable and
thought provoking
record. Pretty much the same as 'A wop bam a loo la, a wop bam boo' did a couple
of decades before; proving that: you don't have to make sense to make art.
Youth In Service is a toast over Delroy Wilson's Have
Some Mercy, which is on the rhythm of To Be A Lover. It was
also released on Mr Funny in JA and Cactus in the UK.
