ALL I COULD DO WAS CRY * ETTA JAMES * LONDON 9139 * UK

Etta James first release for the Chess Corporation's Argo label USA, she had a further seventeen solo releases on the imprint before it was renamed Cadet. All I Could Do Was Cry often described as a tortured ballad, has G[wen] Gordy credited as co writer on the label while the B side, the up-tempo, Tough Mary (the other side of Etta's character?) has no writer credits at all, an unusual omission for a major label.
