JUST WALK IN MY SHOES * GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS * SOUL 35023 * USA
Gladys Knight's first release for Motown on the subsidiary Soul imprint, and what a first release. The song struck me when I first heard it as not so much a love song as a song about a woman suffering and expressing the pain of racial inequality; I'm sure Gladys Knight might well write and tell me that I'm wrong, but until she does I can't help still believing that is what the song is saying.
