As the Raylettes were originally the backing vocals to Ray Charles, likewise The Ikettes originally provided backing vocals to Ike Turner. The first appearance as The Ikettes on their own recording was in 1962 with I'm Blue Atco 6212; this was done for contractual reasons with Sue, who Ike Turner was with at the time. With Jessie Smith singing lead vocals Peaches "N" Cream is a Poppy number with an oft repeated catch phrase, that was aimed deliberately at white audiences, yet still manages to be a good Soul sound.
