TIME AND THE RIVER * JOHN HOLT * TREASURE ISLE * JA
It is said that Arthur Reid resisted producing and issuing Roots music, which at the time the above was issued, was one of the predominant sounds of the West Indies. At the time the above was issued the fortunes of Treasure Isle had changed drastically and in such a short space of time, it had only been a few years since Duke Reid had, arguably, produced and issued the best Rock Steady tunes on the Island, yet by 1973 with the new studios and producers like Joe Gibbs releasing the heavy Rasta sounds, he was seen as yesterdays man. It is possible that had he lived he might have turned his fortunes around, maybe with the Lovers Rock scene, but after falling seriously ill in 1973 Arthur Reid died the following year.
The stamp on this record reads: Winston's Records For the latest in records 37 Wellington Street, Spanish Town. (Nice bit of real history)
