ISLE OF SIRENS * JERRY BUTLER * VEE JAY 426 * USA
Another well put together ballad, lyrics by Curtis Mayfield, sung with Soul by the 'Ice Man' otherwise known as Jerry Butler. Interesting to speculate what the lyrics might have meant to Curtis Mayfield, was he in fact offering a sincere warning to others as to what going too near those beautiful, beautiful 'sirens' can really mean? Is it really a straightforward moral message, like, as in his, People Get Ready? Is this going out as a picture or even a diagram of a true and otherwise poorly represented reality integral too, and when forming, any kind of relationship in this particular set-up in our present society, or, even, in the very nature of the thing itself?
