Born in 1943 in Simmesport, Louisiana Joe Simon first recorded with the The Golden Tones on the Hush label in 1959, the following year he cut his first solo disc It's A Miracle for the imprint. He stayed with Gary Thompson's Oakland based Hush label untill 1962, from there he recorded one for Irral in 1963, one for Dot  and one for Geebee in 1964 that same year he recorded his first My Adorable One for Vee Jay.

Written by Joe Simon and Richard Parker (one half of the duo the Dutones, who also wrote Jimmy Hughe's two Vee Jay hits) and produced by Richard Parker When I'm Gone is a classy ballad with a lovely cressendo half way through its all too short 2 miniuets and 19 seconds.
