INDEPENDENT ANNIVERSARY SKA * THE SKATALITES * ISLAND 260 * UK

It is possible that on the 6th August 1966 The Skatalites were in Studio 1 messing around with the Lennon and McCartney song I Should Have Known Better (taken from their 1964 album Hard Days Night) and got into a groove, and after Coxsone Dodd decided to give it a take, the title was a natural for that day! There might very well be a better explanation why I Should Have Known Better is linked with the anniversary of Jamaican independence but I don't know it.
