MIDNIGHT TRACK * OWEN GRAY * ISLAND 030 * UK

A Moo production, this is as near as Jamaican music ever got to Rock and Roll; which is understandable if the official story of Ska is to be believed. It is said that as much of the black Music in the United States started to shift from the earthy and loose sound of Rhythm and Blues to the more frantic and commercial sounding Rock and Roll, which didn't have the same appeal for Jamaican dancers as the R&B. Therefore as the record scouts and Deejays who would make regular trips to the US to search out records to play at dances found it increasingly difficult to get new recordings, sound system operators started to record their own versions of R&B, Boogie, DooWop and Shuffle, which, as the story goes, led onto the birth of Ska.
