MIGHTY REDEEMER * LAUREL AITKEN * BLUE BEAT 70 * UK

There's lots of energy in these pre Ska Gospel influenced recordings, of which Laurel Aitken did his fair share. Mighty Redeemer was recorded for Duke Reid, before Laurel Aitken left for England, which puts the recording date somewhere around 1959. Although given their release date for the UK many of the early issues on the Blue Beat label were recorded before the label went into production - records that had sold well in Jamaica would have been popular with the recently arrived immigrants as they reminded them of home.
