LOVE AND DEVOTION * THE UNIQUES * GAS 117 * UK
Produced by Lloyd Charmers this was the only record to be released on the Gas imprint (in case anybody is wondering why a label would be called 'Gas', its general meaning, around the time of the labels inception, was: something good, or 'groovy'. The term 'it's a gas', meaning: 'it is good', was popular in the Californian Hippy culture of the mid 1960s; though its use almost certainly originated in Afro-American slang, probably in the 1940s or 1950s, and could well have meant something a little more particular). Love And Devotion is the B side of Too Proud To beg, another Uniques cut, being a cover of the Temptations Ain't Too Proud To Beg from 1966.
