HOMELY GIRL * THE CHI-LITES * BRUNSWICK 9 * UK

Written, produced and sung by the great Eugene Booker Record (1940 - 2005) Homely Girl is a well told sentimental tale of presence and the ability to see beauty in the conventionally ugly. Formed in 1959 and originally called the Hi-Lites the group, all from Chicago, Illinois, Marshall Thompson, Creadel "Red" Jones, Eugene Record, Robert Lester and Clarence Johnson, first recorded for Daran in 1964; it was this group minus Clarence Johnson that signed for Brunswick in 1968. Their first for the label was Give It Away Brunswick 55398, and Homely Girl was their nineteenth, most of which were never released in the UK.
