While 54-46 Was My Number is a development of the original song 54-46 That's My Number, this version of Reborn is a straight re-recording of the original Reborn which was itself a development of the themes in 54-46 That's My Number. In this version of Reborn Frederick 'Toots' Hibbert is singing about the whole episode of his arrest and incarceration which was outlined in 54-46, and using the experiences of those real events as a platform to move forward from. Taken as a whole work these songs demonstrate the ability of a true artist to use all events in their life and of their self as a way of developing not only their art but, more importantly, their consciousness.
