GROOVING OUT ON LIFE * HOPETON LEWIS * DUKE 112 * UK
Miss-titled? as Grooving Out Of Life on the label, this song, very much in the Pop vein - in fact I always thought it was a cover of something written by the likes of Harry Chafin or Kris Kristofferson - helped to alienate many of the Roots Reggae fans from Hopton Lewis who had previously cut some fine Rock Steady cuts and recorded top cuts with the likes of Glenmore Brown. With the passing of time though even records produced by the once almost totally ignored Byron Lee are no longer dismissed out of hand, and for all its overtones of Pop this cut by Hopeton Lewis with some quality bass line now works for me.
