DUPPY CONQUEROR * BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS * UPSETTER 349 * UK
Produced by Lee Perry, this is Bob Marley in defiant mood, after being arrested and released for a minor drug charge. A Duppy is a ghost, or spirit, so that a 'duppy conqueror' is more powerful than a mere 'bullbucker' (bully beater) as mentioned in the song, because he is master of not only the material world but the spirit world too.
Duppy Conqueror was originally released on Upsetter 348, with the 'Doppy' spelling (see below) but what seems to be due to a mix up in the pressing plant the cut was accidentally pressed up again on Upsetter 349 but given the Upsetting Station label. Then Upsetter 349 was pressed again with the correct cut Upsetting Station (Runaway Child) by Dave Barker. Both pressings of Upsetter 349 have the same B side.
