HAPPY REGGAE * ROLAND ALPHONSO * FAB 118 * UK

Roland Alphonso blows a gruff, but mellow, saxophone on a riff that I that I think comes from George Harrison's My Sweet Lord. Produced by Prince Buster this is something of a musically prescient recording as it is more the slower Reggae sound that was to come in around 1970 while at this time most recording was done on the fast Early Reggae beat; a beat that lasted for a brief time in between Rock Steady and the Reggae sound that was to dominate the 1970s. As can be seen by the second issue (below) even the spelling of Reggae had not been codified at this time; for more on early spelling of Reggae go here. The cut was first issued in the UK with the title One Heart by Roland Alphanso (sic) backed with Bull Buck a Buster vocal; it was released soon after with the correct title Happy Reggie (sic) but credited to Prince Buster & The All Stars, this time backed with Stand Up another Buster vocal.
