ADORABLE * THE DRIFTERS * ATLANTIC 1078 * USA

An advert in the an October issue of Billboard magazine illustrates a picture of The Drifters, the title of the above record and the words "FLASH!!! . . SPECIAL RUSH RELEASE." the reason being that this Drifters cut was a cover version! Presumably Atlantic wanted to get it out before the original made too much headway. The original version was by The Colts, a quartet from the other side of America from Atlantic Records, and released on the Pasadena based Vita records label #112 around the middle of September. The Drifters version was actually recorded in September at a session in Hollywood ! with Johnny Moore singing lead, it was his first as lead, five titles were cut at that session only one other (Ruby Baby) of which he sang lead on. All the arcane details apart it is another top track.
