BRING IT ON HOME TO ME * SAM COOKE * RCA 1296 * UK

Released in the US in May 1961, Sam Cooke followed up his big hit of earlier that year, a hedonistic dance song, Twistin' The Night Away, with this, self penned, reflective ballad.

The mood of Bring It On Home To Me - enhanced by Lou Rawls singing background vocals - is, I feel, close to the psyche of Sam Cooke and anticipates his great Civil Rights recording A Change Is Gonna Come.

The song has been covered by a host of different artists including Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and Johnny Clarke (see below).

BRING IT ON HOME TO ME * JOHNNY CLARKE * CARIBBEAN 301 * UK
