YOU CAN'T HURT ME NO MORE * GENE CHANDLER * STATESIDE 401 * UK

Gene Chandler was born Eugene Dixon, and during the mid 1950s, while in Englewood High School Chicago, he formed his first group, known as The Gaytones. Two years later he was singing lead in The Dukays, his first outing on record seems to be The Big Lie for William Sheppard's Chicago based Nat label #4001, with The Dukays in 1961.

The group had three releases on Nat, the third being Duke Of Earl, which was the catalyst for his solo career, the record was picked up by the larger independent label Vee Jay and became a smash hit. After releasing ten singles with Vee Jay Chandler moved to Constellation in 1963. This fine, plaintive Soul ballad You Can't Hurt Me No More was his ninth, of seventeen, release for the label, and his sixth 45 in the UK.
