1963

DEVIL OR ANGEL * LAUREL AITKEN * RIO 17 * UK

It is now known that Laurel Aitken, who had moved to Britain in 1960, spent a month back in Jamaica during 1963 where he bought two days studio session time at Ken Khouri's Federal Studio, and along with members of The Skatalites he recorded over a dozen sides which having paid for the master tapes he took back to Britain and released them on British labels like Island, Black Swan and Rio. With a mouth organ lead probably played by Winston Richards, Devil Or Angel (not the same song as the Clovers) is a nice laid back Ska vocal with a Gospel sentiment.
