1965
I NEED YOU * LAUREL AITKEN * RIO 65 * UK
Both sides of this record seem to have been given different titles than the Jamaican Giant originals. As I understand it this side is credited as I Can't Stand It (though listening to the song it would seem that I Need You is a more apt title) and the next side which is Let's Be Lovers on this Rio release is titled I Love You in Jamaica. Both sides are now thought to be credited as King Edwards productions, the quality of the musical backing seems to testify to the caliber of a King Edwards recording.
Basically it's a Soul type song with a slight Reggae beat, and Laurel Aitken turns in a strong performance with a male chorus backing him, but it is the extended saxophone solo that carries the middle part of the record that clinches it as a stand apart cut.
