1960

ROOM FULL OF TEARS * THE DRIFTERS * ATLANTIC 2127 * USA

Although other cuts from the session were released before this one, this is Rudy Lewis's first recording as lead. The session took place in New York, September 1960 and the rest of the group were Charles Thomas, tenor; Doc Green, baritone; Ellsbury Hobbs, bass; it was also the first session on which the group were accompanied by Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick, Cissy Huston and Doris Troy, all four of whom were to be on other Drifters sessions right up to December 1963. The session also had Billy Davis (real name Abdul Samed) on guitar and Mort Shuman on piano, and Please Stay, Sweets For My Sweet and Some Kind Of Wonderful were the three other recordings laid down that day which were released.
