Martha Reeves, Rosalind Ashford and Annette Sterling, as Martha & The Vandellas with their fourth release on the Gordy label (see below). Released in November 1963 Quicksand is a Holland, Dozier, Holland song it was The Vandellas follow up to Heat Wave and shared many of its characteristics but was dynamic and fresh enough (especially that seven beat drum-break near the end which somehow balances that beautiful oooooh, oooooohs, at the beginning) to be a hit in the US, scoring number eight on both Pop and R&B charts, and big hit with the newly emerging British Soul music fans.
