This page given over to a small part of the immense musical output of Jamaica's premier 20th century label known collectively as: Studio One. More information (and more music) is now available to the layperson than was ever available at the time, and while not all of it is either accurate or intelligent, it does serve to forward all of the exceptionally beautiful music to come out of the studios of Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd.
In an inverse way the almost complete lack of interest, for all but the biggest names in Reggae, by the mainstream media has helped to nurture the music; because while keeping it's reason for being focused, I believe the music was able to preserve it's integrity; a trade off that, at least for some fans of the music, has been of some worth. I doubt if it will ever be possible to authenticate, arrange chronologically, or even know what the complete output of this particular studio is, but like the Blues - its mirror in the first half of the century - this lack of a cotemporaneous academic or theoretical narrative over-coding, or underpinning, was part of, or even helped to make Reggae music and Studio 1 in particular, an original and significant contribution to 20th century western art and, QED, life.
