TEENAGE SONATA * SAM COOKE * RCA 1184 * UK

Sam Cooke with his homage to that powerful, but often un-conseptulised in the mind of the participant, emotional state that is a teenage romantic engagement. Recorded on January 26 1960 Teenage Sonata was Sam Cooke's first release on the RCA label, written by Jeff Barry it would be difficult to find a more schmaltzy song, added to which it has over the top gratuitous violins squeaking away in the background and yet because of the incredible vocal talent of Sam Cooke he somehow manages to, even though it is said he didn't like the song, produce another timeless, Soulful ballad.
